Carrot Seed
Daucus carota, known as “Wild Carrot” or “Queen Anne’s Lace”, grows as the name suggests, “wild” in temperate regions of Europe, southwest Asia, North America, and Australia. Its delicate, white flower clusters open like umbrellas as they blossom in the spring. When the leaves are crushed, or the root is pulled, a very distinctive carrot-like aroma is released.
Wild carrot’s roots and seeds have been widely used as an herbal remedy throughout history. As the direct ancestor of today’s more common carrot, wild carrot is equally packed with nutrition, containing significant amounts of skin nourishing vitamins A, K, C, and biotin compounds that keep skin healthy, supple, and luminous. Studies show carrot seed oil contains anti-inflammatory and antifungal bioactive properties due to its primary component, Carotol. Over a third of carrot seed essential oil is comprised of this unique compound which helps the skin to fight off harmful bacteria and environmental aggressors while promoting cell regeneration. This delicate, yet potent oil is said to alleviate skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis thanks to its exceptional anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and antiseptic properties. Carrot seed oil is also a natural favorite for its promotion of the graceful-aging process.
