In our world, there is a marked difference between "shelf life," "expiration," and our brand concept of freshness. We think of each of our products as gourmet food for the skin. Just as with most food, the closer our treats are enjoyed to the time they are made, the higher the levels of nutrients and potency.
We advise a shelf life of one year from the time you open each new bottle or jar and we encourage opening within six months of the date your individual treat was made. This reminder is marked on the bottom of every bottle and jar and we’ve been known to set calendar alerts for ourselves too!
Under best conditions, each of our products is stable and will last well beyond the 12-months-from-opening timeline, but we also encourage you to indulge frequently to enjoy the full benefit and highest possible level of nutrients and goodness. Our sleek and substantial black glass bottles are visually stunning, but they also serve a vital purpose that goes far beyond aesthetic to serve an active vital purpose. The history and appreciation for the special protective qualities of Miron violet glass can be traced back to the heyday of ancient Egyptian civilization. Even then, valuable essences and healing natural products were kept in gold and violet glass containers. Miron violet glass works like a natural filter, blocking the complete spectrum of visible light while allowing a certain part to be permeable for radiation in the spectral range of UV-A and infrared light. This unique combination offers optimal protection against the aging processes that are initiated by visible light, thus lengthening the stability and potency of our collection, without the use of parabens and preservatives.
Our first priority is to honor, respect, and preserve the integrity of our prized ingredients. While this is true of every piece of the collection, it is particularly important to house any formula containing plant oils in glass. Plastic and oils are a volatile combination. Over time, plastic will degrade in the presence of oil and integrate into a formula, and ultimately into your skin and organs - there are a multitude of reasons why this should be avoided.
May first came across our unique glass in the mid-2000’s during the early stages of research and development for our collection. While seen with relative frequency in natural skincare today, at the time Miron glass was almost entirely reserved for keeping rare food products and medical marijuana fresh for long durations of time! We have many clients who keep our bottles after use to up-cycle for cut flowers, and our jars are fantastic for holding odds and ends both in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Q-tips, bobbypins, and cotton balls find themselves with a cozy, sexy home.
Over the years, we have learned firsthand through repeated painful trials that the beauty retail industry - both natural and conventional - is largely not set up to facilitate inventory management and product rotation in a way that respects the delicate nature of fresh-made skincare. When we entered this world, we made assumptions that our products, and all beauty products, would be purchased by our retail outlets in reasonable amounts to allow for full sell-through in a timely manner before replenishment, and that new inventory coming into stock would follow first-in/first-out procedures to ensure nothing found itself lost on a shelf for many months or years. What we discovered is that with rare exception, this does not happen automatically. With this insight, we’ve taken an aggressive stance on what it means to be a retail partner for our brand.
We view each of our retailers as a cherished extension of our intimate family, and with that comes a responsibility to deliver on our promise of unparalleled quality and freshness to our mutual clients. We’ve found that by reducing our overall curation of retail partners, expanding our education and service efforts for the stars that remain, and by implementing regular inventory monitoring of every active partner, we’re instigating the change we believe is vital for the respect and care of all brands and for every client.
While your 12-month clock starts from opening with our treats, we ask that our retail partners sell each bottle within five months of its unique “made fresh” birthday. We want this goodness to arrive to you at its very best in every single bottle, without compromise.
